About our Founder
Raycon Technologies was founded by Kevin Birkett. Kevin is a native of Gainesville, Florida and holds Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Computer Engineering from the University of Florida.
After completing his Masters Degree in 2001, Kevin helped form the startup company ICU Data Systems. Here, Kevin was the lead developer for a medical device, now known as Vital Sync™, helping to take the product from an idea on the back of an envelope to a patented FDA 510(k) cleared medical device, and powerful bedside clinical data management system used by researchers and bedside clinicians in Intensive Care Units around the world. ICU Data Systems was acquired by Somanetics Corporation in 2008, and in late 2010 Somanetics and the Vital Sync technology were acquired by Healthcare giant Covidien.
Kevin has over 25 years of experience developing and deploying complex medical devices, and is familiar with all aspects involved in developing and maintaining a product in accordance with the FDA and EU Medical Device Directives. Throughout his career in the medical device industry, Kevin has developed a passion for creating technologies that help patients get better, and it is what keeps him motivated when building new products.
Raycon Technologies also draws on a trusted network of contractors and specialists, brought in as needed to match the specific skills each project requires. This lets Raycon scale expertise across disciplines — from embedded systems and regulatory compliance to modern software architecture and data science — while maintaining the same hands-on oversight and quality standards that have defined Raycon’s work since 2002.
Beyond medical devices, Raycon Technologies has built a track record consulting across a wide variety of industries, helping organizations find and implement the right technology solutions to become more efficient and effective. Project experience spans Telecommunications, P&C Insurance, Agricultural R&D, Aviation, Television Production, Early Childhood Education, and Natural Language Processing, among others — bringing the same rigor and attention to detail from the medical device world to every new domain.
Outside of work, Kevin is an avid outdoorsman, and enjoys golfing. Kevin is also a commercial, instrument-rated, multi-engine pilot, and loves the freedom that General Aviation offers.
